Fashion News (by Anita Clarke) – Friday September 17th (2010): New York’s Fashion week round-up, Fashion TV turned 25 and Tommy Ton made an editorial debut.
New York Fashion Week Spring 2011: New York Fashion Week is coming to a close. Tom Ford returned to womenswear with a top secret and exclusive presentation. Images from the collection won’t be available till January 2011. The Row had to cancel their Spring 2011 presentation due to sample delivery problems and are moving it to the Paris schedule. Montreal based Complexgeometries presented their first show in New York and have been receiving great press. Olivier Theyskens is back in the design saddle and he debuted his capsule collection with Theory called ‘Theyskens’ Theory’. Edun’s new designer Sharon Wauchob also debuted her first collection with the line in New York. Model Hillary Rhoda returned to the runways after a three year absence. Roland Mouret has bought back his name after five years. Cathy Horn had her claws out and ripped into Alexander Wang’s design skill. Rodarte went from high fashion inaccessibility to commercial wearability with their Spring 2011 collection.
Events: Fashion Televisioncelebrated 25 years at their headquarters with a retrospective fashion show produced by Cherie Federau of Shrimpton Couture.
Retail: This weekend marks the last day for the Rock ‘n’ Rogue vintage menswear pop up boutique at the Hotshot Gallery Café, 181 Augusta Ave. Jessica Biffi’s plus sized line for Addition Elle launched this week in stores and online.
News: Philip Sparks launches womenswear for Spring 2011. Tommy Ton made his editorial debut in the October 2010 issue of Vogue Nippon. The Kit, a free digital beauty magazine launched this week. Madison Shoes & Accessories opened it’s third location in Toronto at The Exchange Tower. NADA will open a pop up shop in Bayview Village Shopping Centre for the Fall Winter 2010 season.
